Change

With the election only a few weeks away, the American people are more passionate than ever about change. Obama supporters insist that he's going to change things in our country. McCain tells us that he can bring us change, too. No one wants the same thing we've had these past 4-8 years -- we all want change. We want something new. Something different. Something RIGHT.

Our pastor gave one of the best sermons ever a couple of weekends ago. His message was about change, and how we can really be sure to find change in our lives.

I absolutely love our pastor. We very much enjoy going to our church, and this Sunday sermon from October 5th is my favorite so far. If you have a half hour and don't have anything to do at the moment, grab a cup of coffee... or some popcorn... or a glass of wine... or whatever. Sit back, hit play, and let these words sink in. I urge every one of you reading this blog to watch the video below. I ask anyone who is interested in the election and who is desperate for change -- whether it's with Obama or McCain or Ron Paul or whomever -- to watch and listen to what our pastor has to say:

Maria,

Thank you so much for posting that! What a great message!

I love how he emphasized the real change that we need... a personal repentance of our sin that leads to a real change in our lives.

I especially liked his statement near the end where he said that you can't "religious" your way into redemption... but that you repent your way into redemption and you have a change of heart. So many people think that just the act or thought of being "religious" is enough... but they completely miss the point! And God is clear about what He thinks of that kind of mentality in people and what He does about it. (i.e., separating the chaff from the wheat)

Your pastor also mentioned John Newton, who wrote the song "Amazing Grace." I read a book about John Newton and his life was remarkable... a true story of redemption and "change." He went from an abusive, atheistic slave ship captain to a humble and truly repentant believer in Christ. Just thinking about his life story nearly brings me to tears because he had a very tumultous life but he found God. He held such deep grief in his heart about his past sin because he had hurt so many people. His journals that he wrote in still exist and that's what was in much of the book I read, as well as other information that was documented and known about him.

The pastor at my church had a great message yesterday relating to the things we're dealing with today as well. It was about life's "storms" and how we need to rely on God to get us through... not people. (i.e., he was indirectly addressing the danger in people, namely Christians, who will vote for a candidate whom they believe will get them through these economic hardships... while glossing over that candidates personal moral views on topics like abortion and homosexuality.) He didn't name names of politicians but he did emphasize how we need to rely on God to get us through these hard times and not people... because people will always fail us but God never will. We can fully rely on God's promises because they never fail. :) Amen!
