Obamanation...

Posted

While millions of people around our country rejoice and celebrate this historic day, I find myself in the severe minority as one who is just so sad over the whole thing. Don't get me wrong -- I think it's so awesome that we've elected a black man to be president, and that the lines of color have been erased in such a manner. I'm just disappointed that we've elected Barack Obama. He is a false prophet and has become the epitome of idolatry. I'm disappointed that millions and millions of Americans are pinning their hopes and their dreams on this one man. I'm discouraged that those who call themselves devout Christians would stand up for a man who is undoubtedly the most liberal president we've ever had. But the saddest thing of all is that so many people seem to worship, praise, adore and idolize this person.

In the past month, I have heard statements (both on TV/Radio, and in real life) that just made me cringe. I wrote them down, to post here:

"Finally, I have something to hope for."

"Obama is going to change our lives."

"He is the best thing that ever happened to us."

"I feel triumphant in a way that I've never felt before."

"We're tired, and weary of life. This man is going to lift us up in ways that no one else could."

"Obama promises... and I know he's going to deliver."

I have others -- two pages of them, actually. The whole thing just sits so uneasy in my stomach. Why, you ask? You're probably thinking the same thing that an acquaintance of mine said a few weeks back. "So what if the American people are feeling hopeful and giving their lives and dreams to this guy? What's wrong with that? Many have had hard lives, and if Obama can help pull them out of the dumps, then more kudos to him."

The real sadness here is that Barack Obama is just a human. He's just a man. And these millions of Americans who are writing songs about him and celebrating with music, dancing, hugging, laughing and applause are following a typical false idol. They have forgotten about God. They've turned their back on Jesus. The Bible specifically tells us to lean only on Him. For God is the only one in control of change. He is the only one that can give us hope. He gave us something to look forward to by sending His son down to earth, to save us from our sins and give us eternal life. The songs, the praise, the worship, the hope, the adoration... it all should go to The LORD. No one can lift us up but Him. I'm sure that God is up in Heaven, looking down on the U.S. with sadness and sorrow. For once again -- probably for the thousandth time -- we are idolizing a mere human. The American people are looking at Obama as if he has the power to change their lives.

I assure you, my friends... no one has the power to change your life but Christ. By finding Christ, you find God. By finding God, you find life.

Matthew 16:24-26 tells us this: Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

So many passages in the Bible tell us to put our hope in God.

Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
(Psalms 25:5)

Love the LORD, all his saints!
The LORD preserves the faithful,
but the proud he pays back in full.
Be strong and take heart,
all you who hope in the LORD.
(Psalms 31:23-24)

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.
(Psalms 62:5)

In fact, a good portion of the Psalms is about putting your hope and trust and faith in God.

Bottom line, my message is this: For all those who are idolizing this man as one who will transform the world and bring a light into everyone's lives... you will be disappointed. He is just another man, another president. He is not in control, and he does not have power over everything in this world. It's not his fault -- I don't blame him for who he is and what he's done. He's human, so of course he's going to love his status, popularity and adoration of his fans. But I pray for every single person -- especially those calling themselves Christians -- who are putting their love, faith and hope in this new President.

I, for one, am going to follow in the footsteps of King David, who recognized without a shadow of a doubt that God controls ALL. That there is only one we should look up to and praise... that there is only one we should give our hopes and dreams to... that there is only one that has the strength and power to change our lives.

The Lord, our God, Father of Jesus Christ who died for us. That is it, and that is all. For if anyone here on earth is more concerned about the here and now, and cares only for what a human can bring into their lives, then they are giving up their eternal life. And if any one person on this planet feels that their earthly life is more important than their eternal life, well, then... I pray that your eyes will be opened and that the Holy Spirit will soften your hardened heart. Eternity is an awfully long time.

I know it's hard to comprehend. But sit still for a minute and think about it. David acknowledges that it's hard to have hope in this life. But when you look around and see your children, your spouse, your home, your health, and abundance in ways that most countries don't understand... you must recognize that all of the thanks and glory belongs to God. If our nation turns around and the economy stabilizes, it will NOT have anything to do with Obama, I can assure you.

David's Prayer

David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,
"Praise be to you, O LORD,
God of our father Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.

Wealth and honor come from you;
you are the ruler of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.

Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name.

"But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. We are aliens and strangers in your sight, as were all our forefathers. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope. O LORD our God, as for all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name, it comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things have I given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. O LORD, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep this desire in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you.

Maria

I can agree on one thing, it is sad that people look at him as a Messiah. It is scary... I ahve noticed that as of late.

Yes, people at my school are just IN LOVE WITH HIM. You're right, they are looking at him as if he can change our lives and make it better. As if he can save the world... pff.

It was quite sad to watch the inauguration in my classroom at school. High schoolers don't respect our new president at all! Many people were wanting - WANTING! - for Barack Obama to get assassinated!
That is so tragic!
He's definitely in my prayers, even if I don't support his liberal views.

God bless Maria!

I share these same sentiments. I am sick of hearing people say that now they feel safe. Who do they think kept us safe for the last 7 years. I am sickened by all of it and sick of reading peoples blogs who are on his bandwagon.

Oh, sister! Preach on!!!

My husband says that for many, politics is their religion, the Democratic party is their church, and abortion is their sacrament.

Wow, Missy, that's a good way of putting it! Yikes. :)

How offended are you guys that Obama's very first executive order is to close Guantanamo and extend rights to terrorists? I can't say I'm surprised, but seriously? That just blows my mind. It sure shows where Obama's priorities lie. I miss Bush already.

January 22, 2009 2:30 PM

Two days in office and he has already done irreparable harm to our country. He is probably going to try Bush for war crimes. Just wait and see.

January 22, 2009 9:12 PM

Oh good grief! Now look at what he's doing! Not even a full week in office and he's opening up the floodgates for abortions.

I "love" (note the sarcasm) how people in the news have compared Obama to President Lincoln and how he himself even compares himself to such an honorable president... but in less than a week, he's quickly proving that wrong. What a horrible 4 years we have ahead of us! I'm praying dearly for God's protection. This is nuts.

January 23, 2009 11:02 AM

Yep...day three let's pay for more abortions.
